After CyanogenMod died last year, a new development community, LineageOS took its place and promised to take CyanogenMod’s progress forward.

The LineageOS site has been around for some weeks and finally the first builds of LineageOS for some devices has been rolled out today.
download.lineageos.org is the repository to download LineageOS builds that are sorted device and manufacturer-wise, just like the old download section of CyanogenMod.

For now, only few devices have been added- Google’s Nexus 6P (angler), Nexus 5X (bullhead); Motorola’s Moto G4/G4 Plus (athene); Nextbit Robin (ether) and Xiaomi Redmi 1S (armani). The versioning system has remained same as CyanogenMod’s, i.e. 14.1 is Android Nougat 7.1, 13.0 is Marshmallow 6.0. Two types of builds- Experimental and Nightly are served.

  • LineageOS resumes CyanogenMod’s work from where it suspended, although they are not exactly same, for example, LineageOS doesn’t yet come pre-rooted. They are looking forward for a separate flashable zip to root LineageOS ROMs.

In the coming days they are targeting to cover more and more devices. You can easily find the target list they provided here to check if your device is going to get LineageOS support.
